Join the AHBN Steering Group

Since its launch in 2014, the Africa Health Budget Network has grown into a network of more than 100 members from across Africa. As our work continues to grow we need more formal governance structures to ensure we achieve the most for our members. Do you want to join the Steering Group?

Since its launch in 2014, the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has grown into a network of more than 100 members from across Africa. This year, AHBN launched the campaign #ValueOurHealth: African voices for better health spending on women and children.  Under the unified #ValueOurHealth brand, our members are working to institutionalise improvements in budget transparency and participation to increase overall health spend as well as its efficiency and effectiveness.  Two years on from its inception, the work of AHBN is gaining increasing momentum and recognition at national and international levels and we are beginning to record advocacy successes. For example, the #ValueOurHealth campaign led by CSBAG in Uganda led to increased funding for health workers in the 2016-17 national budget. As AHBN’s work continues to grow there is a need for more formal governance structures in order to ensure that it achieves the most for its members. With this in mind, AHBN is seeking Expressions of Interest from our members and partners to participate in the Steering Committee. The Steering committee will work closely with the AHBN secretariat, which is responsible for the day to day coordination of the network. The AHBN Steering Committee will:

  • Drive the overall strategy for the network, ensuring that it is responsive to the needs of its members
  • Oversee the work of the AHBN secretariat, ensuring that key milestones are met
  • Ensure economy, efficiency, equity and effectiveness of resource use
  • Support business development efforts to ensure necessary resources are in place to support AHBN’s work.

The inaugural meeting will take place in London in late July (date TBC). Draft Terms of References for the Steering Committee are attached and will be finalised during this meeting. The deadline for Expressions of Interest is 26 June 2016 and should be sent to Rosie Le Voir at info@africahbn.org  Your expression of interest should describe why you are interested in being a member of the Steering Committee, what skills you will bring to the Committee and how you can make a difference. Please also share a copy of your CV.  Thank you for considering this opportunity to shape the future of AHBN.
