The Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) Knowledge contest between youths in tertiary institutions in Ondo State concluded its second phase with the following schools participating: Federal University of Technology (FUTA) Akure, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) Owo, Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo and All States College of Education, Ero.

The students, who are also MamaYe activists, showed great enthusiasm towards maternal and newborn health issues by actively participating in the contest.

Adegbeyeni Abiodun Michael, the winner of this second round, is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Technology. His course of study is so divergent from maternal and newborn health, but ever since he came in contact with MamaYe, his interest to be an activist in the cause of saving the lives of mothers and newborns is greatly evident in how much he wants to equip himself with immense knowledge in maternal and newborn health.

Michael says

Ruling out every act of deceitfulness, it is usually disheartening for me whenever I hear about the death of a mother or a baby. I know that everyone must feel this same way, but my concern is how this trend could stop, until MamaYe came to RUGIPO.

Michael is one of the most consistent in answering questions posed to all the students via MamaYe’s Whatsapp group. His passion for maternal and newborn health development is quite interesting, and we are proud to have provided the platform for him to express his feelings.

We send a very heart-warming congrats to Michael and encourage him to keep being a passionate activist for the survival of mothers and newborns.
