In highlighting the importance of improving quality of maternal and newborn care, the journal BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, has released this special supplement. The supplement includes review articles, country studies, and commentaries on the provision and accurate assessment of quality of care for maternal and newborn health.
Guaranteeing quality maternal and newborn health care is vital to improving the survival of mothers and babies.  Poor quality of care puts the lives of women and babies at risk, and acts as a barrier to the uptake of services, so that even in instances where services are available, close-by, and affordable, they are not adequately used.In highlighting the importance of improving quality of maternal and newborn care, the journal BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, has released a special supplement: International Reviews: Quality of Care.Edited by Nynke van den Broek, Gwyneth Lewis and Matthews Mathai, the supplement includes review articles, country studies, and commentaries on the provision and accurate assessment of quality of care for maternal and newborn health.The 28 articles in the supplement cover three areas:
  1. Quality of care
  2. Maternal health
  3. Newborn health and stillbirth
Together they highlight experiences in developing and implementing different types of audit to improve the quality of maternal and newborn health, including:
