24 secondary and primary school teachers in Northern Malawi have been trained as MamaYe club patrons and matrons in their schools.
MamaYe clubs are school based youth clubs whose goal is to develop a cadle of young people who are knowledgeable on MNH issues and have developed an ability and skills to advocate for the same in their communities.
MamaYe clubs aims at impacting on sexual behaviours of young people and develop their self-confidence to ably communicate and discuss reproductive health issues amongst themselves and with elders.
MamaYe has over 40 functional such clubs in our districts of Kasungu, Ntchisi, Ntcheu, Balaka, Mchinji and Mangochi with a club membership of over 1200 boys and girls.
These young people have been central to various community initiatives like promotion of antenatal visits and village blood donation campaigns among other activities.MamaYe north is targeting 6 traditional authorities in 3 districts of Mzimba South, Nkhatabay and Rumphi.
In these impact areas, over 60 schools will be part of MamaYe club movement over the period of 2 years.
In this bunch of training 4 schools from Mzimba south, 5 schools from Nkhatabay and 3 schools in Rumphi were involved.
